The meet kicked off with great competition in men’s Hammer Throw. Hammerman throwers finished first and second, with Javaris Ambrose besting Diego Campos. Both throwers had great throws in excess of 170 feet.
On the girls’ side Courtney Claybough, state finalist in the shot put and the discus, took the title with a hammer throw of 122 feet. Courtney also won girls’ shot put and discus at our July 9 meet. She comes from a throwing family. Her brother, Kyle, is the reigning two-time IHSA shot put champ. Courtney is going to be a sophomore this fall, so look out, competition!
Boys’ competition in the discus was tight, with high-schooler Spence Kessler taking the crown with a throw of 159 feet. This discus event is attracting a growing contingent of college throwers and the competition is very good.
Two-time winner, Spence Kessler, won the shot put with an excellent toss of 57 feet.
We had some good competition in the Javelin. Collegian, Peyton Panka, won the women’s division with a throw of 121 feet. The men’s side was won by high-schooler Vaughn Myers from MVTC with a heave of 121 feet.
The fourth Throwers League meet is coming right up on July 23rd. Be sure to sign up as the more you compete, the more chance you have of gaining valuable Throwers League points.
