It was another hot and steamy day at the Field last Saturday. But the weather was not nearly as hot as the throwing, with many personal bests scored and over nine Hammerman Field records broken. With the absence of track meets this summer, Hammerman Field, the throwing Mecca of the Midwest, has become a focal point for many throwers. Over 50 athletes competed in the Shot Put, Discus, Hammer Throw and Javelin. Throwers came from Michigan, Iowa, Missouri and Florida and lit up the record boards:
- Sydney Lake from Florida established a new field record in the Girls High School hammer throw of 165’11”, one of the longest throws in the country.
- Kyle Clabough from Hammerman USA continued his unbeaten streak in the High School 15-16 year old boys Shot Put with a throw of 55’6¼”.
- Julie Reglewski of the Boas also extended her High School Girls unbeaten streak in the Shot Put with a toss of 43’3”.
- Javelin throwers Sydney and Julian Jusczyk from Missouri demolished Field records in the High School girls and boys Javelin with throws of 164’7” and 182’0” respectively.
There were many other personal bests for throwers in all the age groups and events. Olympian, Kibwe Johnson was on hand to coach his Hammer Thrower, Luke Witte who came in from Florida.
The Final Throwers League Meet will be held on August 8 at Hammerman Field. We are expecting a large contingent of athletes as this will be our last meet of the season. Many championship spots are still undecided in the Throwers League. Champions will be awarded on the total accumulation of points during the four meets held this summer. We will be handing out championship medals on August 8th for boys and girls in all the events and age groups. We look forward to seeing all of you as we close out the season.
