Hammer Throw Training at Hammerman Field in Aurora IL
We teach young throwers ages 13 – 19 how to throw the hammer. From beginners to advanced throwers, our coaches will help young athletes improve their throwing abilities.
Training Qualifications
We accept boys and girls ages 13 through 19. No prior hammer throwing experience is necessary.
We accept high school and college hammer throwers looking to improve their technique.
All training program participants are eligible to compete in our throws meets at Hammerman Field.

Hammer Throw Training for Beginning Throwers
Are you interested in competing in track and field events? The hammer throw is a fun and exciting option. If you are 13 to 19 years old, have never thrown the hammer and would like to learn how, this program is for you!

Are you an experienced hammer thrower who would like to improve your skills? Our talented coaches can help! Both coaches have achieved collegiate All-American status in the hammer throw, so they know what it takes to be successful.

MEET THE COACHes
Head Throws Coach Andy Harris
Coach Harris is a former Hammer Thrower from Fresno State. While in college, Andy competed in the Shot Put, Discus and Hammer Throw. He was a three-time All American in Hammer Throw and an elite Olympic weight lifter. After graduating, Andy became a high school English teacher, specializing in English as a second language.
Coach Harris has been a successful Throws coach at several area high schools, coaching Shot, Discus and Hammer. His throwers have won conference and sectional titles and have qualified for the state meet. Coach Harris is a technically proficient teacher who knows how to get the most out of his students. Andy has been the Head Throws Coach at Hammerman USA since 2022.
Coach Jim Coxworth
Coach Coxworth is a former hammer thrower for the University of Illinois in Champaign. While at Illinois, he set school and stadium records as an unrecruited walk on. He achieved All-American status in 1975.
Coach Coxworth has been an entrepreneur in the St. Charles area, having built two businesses from the ground up. He is also the founder of Hammerman USA. Coach Coxworth knows how to motivate young people. Coach helps kids learn what it takes to be successful in sports and in life. He loves the hammer throw and looks forward to teaching your son or daughter this exciting sport.
Hammer Throw training program details
Hammer Throw Training for Beginning Throwers
This program is designed specifically for athletes who are 13 to 19 years old and have never thrown the hammer. Our coaches will teach you the basic skills you will require to advance in the exciting sport of hammer throwing. We keep class sizes small to ensure you get focused attention from our coaches.
The program includes 10 one-hour sessions. Hammerman USA will provide hammers for your training sessions. You will need to bring your own throwing gloves and shoes. Email Coach Coxworth for more information on the type of equipment you will need. All participants in our training programs are entitled to compete in our Summer Throwers League meets.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
COST: $500 per session includes for all 10 sessions

Continuing Hammer Throw Training for Experienced Throwers
If you’re already competing in hammer throw events and would like to improve your skills, this is the program for you! Because our coaches have competed in hammer throw at advanced levels, they have the knowledge and experience to help you succeed. Our classes are limited to only 5 participants, so you’ll be sure to get the attention you need to improve your hammer throwing technique.
The program includes 10 one-hour sessions. Hammerman USA will provide hammers for your training sessions. You will need to bring your own throwing gloves and shoes. All participants in our training programs are entitled to compete in our Summer Throwers League meets.
